COURSE OVERVIEW

 

Aims                                               

To develop the practical skills and knowledge in the emergency evacuation requirements for working in the barge, pontoon, silos and other confined spaces. The Emergency evacuation plan is to outline a structured evacuation to ensure the safety of employees. The plan is intended as guidance in the management of any unusual occurrence in a confined space. Occurrences could include floods, hurricanes, explosions, tornadoes, major fires, terrorism, and any event that has the potential for mass casualties. To ensure, as far as practicable, that no person suffers injury or illness as a result of an emergency. The procedures that will be discussed are designed to assist your organizations implement emergency evacuation procedures in your workplaces.

Outcomes
On completion of this training session, each participant will:

  • identify a confined space and associated hazards,
  • list the characteristics of gases/contaminants found in confined spaces,
  • list the main items of planning and acceptable methods of mechanical isolation,
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the PTW system, as it relates to confined space entry,
  • Identify the personal and respiratory protective equipment to be worn,
  • Check and use breathing apparatus and other RPE,
  • List the main hazards in gas freeing, cleaning, blasting, painting and welding operations in confined spaces,
  • Carry out the duties of a standby man,
  • Enter and exit a vessel correctly and safely,
  • Use the communication systems and signals used when working in confined spaces,
  •  List the main points of the emergency procedures related to vessel entry
  • Identify a key elements of emergency evacuation preparation plan for confined areas- pontoons and silos
  • Address all potential emergencies that can be anticipated and recovery plan.
  • Evaluate potential emergency situation, develop emergency procedures and conduct practice exercise
  • Save life and reduce personal injury
  • Prevent or minimize property damage
  • Report fires and other emergencies.
  • Know when to evacuate, when to attempt to rescue, whom to notify and what equipment to shut down.
  • Know how to protect against hazards
  • Initiate evacuation
  • Brief emergency service personnel on their arrival and thereafter act on the instructions of the emergency services senior officer
  • Know actions to be taken by a person discovering an emergency, what staff should do if they discover an emergency
  • Know confined space evacuation procedures (description of procedures to be followed, including plan indicating exit routes)how the evacuation should be carried out.
  • Know emergency evacuation procedures and route assignments.
  • Know Procedures to be followed by employees (if any) who remain to conduct some critical functions before they evacuate.
  • Know procedures to account for all employees after emergency evacuation.
  • Know rescue and medical duties for those employees (if any) who are designated to perform them.
  • Know names and phone numbers of persons who can be contacted for further information on the emergency plan.
  • Know evacuation and contingency plans for when life safety systems, life raft, work vest, life buoy, lifting devices, stretchers, slings, etc are to be employed.

Examination
We have sets of EXAMS for each of the package in addition to practical assignments which you must pass before certification. Pass mark is 50%. If you fail any of the exams, you would be required to re-sit it at the cost N3000 per paper.

Duration, Delegates and Responsibilities
The duration of the course is 2 days. The course is delivered in our Full Multi-Media, Air-conditioned Training Laboratory. The course can also be delivered as an in- House Training Program in your premises. For in-house training, the minimum number of persons required per class is 6 persons, if you are training a class that is less than 6 persons, your payment may cover payment for 6 persons.

We shall execute the program as presented in this schedule with our materials, equipment and instructors, and issue certificates to participants at the end of the program. If the training is holding at our Training Laboratory, we shall serve tea/coffee with snacks and lunch during the program.

If you want the training to hold in your company premises, you are to provide the training hall and serve tea/coffee with snacks and lunch during the program. If the training location is outside Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, an additional cost to cover logistics at such a location will be added to the total cost unless provided or specific arrangement is made by the company.
