COURSE OVERVIEW
NEBOSH qualifications with high pass rate globally are provided by Safeguard RTL, a NEBOSH Accredited Learning Partner 1332 with SILVER STATUS. You can join our Nebosh International Oil and Gas Certificate Physical Classroom Training or preferably the Virtual Class from any location in the world. You can also write your invigilated exam in our office locations or at various exam locations globally.
The International Oil and Gas Certificate is aimed primarily at managers, supervisors and health and safety advisers with safety responsibilities in the oil and gas industry. The qualification focuses on operational process safety and is intended to enable learners to apply and implement effective process safety management across all areas of their operation, anywhere in the world.
This qualification provides the underpinning knowledge, which when combined with experience enables holders to identify, evaluate and control a wide range of workplaces hazards. It is based around international standards and management systems that enable the effective discharge of workplace safety responsibilities both onshore and offshore. Globally, employers in the oil and gas industries find that the International Oil and Gas Certificate can improve the safety culture of their organisation by providing line management and staff with a sound understanding of operational safety management.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?
The NEBOSH Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety covers one main unit (IOG1) entitled ‘Management of international oil and gas operational safety’.

This unit is divided into the following five key elements:
Examination registration
Learners must be registered before they can take an examination. All examination registrations must be completed by Safeguard RTL as the accredited learning partner.
Examination entry confirmation
Once we have registered you to an examination, we will send you an Examination Entry Confirmation that includes your learner number, and important information relating to your examination and results process. Please ensure that you check your name is spelt correctly and report this to your us if any changes are required.
The Examination Entry Confirmation is essential to gain entry to the examination room, you will need to show a form of photographic identification to the invigilator and then sign the Examination Entry Confirmation.
Examination Format
IOG1 - Invigilated paper-based exams.
Exam dates will be decided and arranged by Safeguard RTL.
Examination Results
You will receive your results within 15 working days of sitting the examination. Once you have achieved a pass a qualification parchment will be issued. This is normally within 20 working days of the confirmation of the successful unit.
NOTIONAL LEARNING HOURS
A break-down of the notional learning hours is given below:
Unit IOG1: 34 hours tuition and 20 hours private study Total: 54 hours
A programme of study therefore is based around a minimum of 34 taught hours and approximately 20 hours of private study for an overall total of 54 hours. A full-time block release course would be expected to last for a minimum of one week (five working days) and a part-time day release course would be spread over at least five weeks. For candidates studying by open or distance learning, the tuition hours should be added to the recommended private study hours to give the minimum number of hours that this mode of study will require.
ASSESSMENTS
The International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety consists of one unit: Unit IOG1: Management of international oil and gas operational safety.
• Unit IOG1 is a taught unit, assessed by a two-hour written examination.
• The written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions (8 marks each) and one ‘long-answer’ question (20 marks); all questions are compulsory.
• The examination paper covers the whole unit syllabus.
• Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
The pass standard for the unit may is normalized to 45%.
When candidates have passed the unit, a final grade is awarded as follows:
Pass 45 - 54 marks
Credit 55 - 64 marks
Distinction 65 marks or more
‘Standard’ examination dates for this qualification are available in March, June, September and December annually. Safeguard RTL may also request ‘on-demand’ examinations on a date of their choosing for this qualification.
RE-SITTING UNIT(S)
You may re-sit a unit assessment if:
There is no limit to the number of times you can re-sit unit(s) within the five-year period. Re-sit marks are not capped. If you want to try to improve your grade in a Unit, you need to tell Nebosh in writing within 20 working days of the declaration date of your successful unit.
ENROLMENT DURATION
You will have five years to complete your qualification. The five-year period starts from the date you passed your first successful unit (we call this the ‘declaration date’). Any unit that is five or more years old will not count towards the qualification and you will need to retake the unit(s) if you still want to complete the qualification.

You will return the completed form with your Evidence or Proof of Payment for confirmation. Once payment is confirmed, you will receive an acknowledgment including an e-receipt and other details about the training including the training materials. You will be required to study and endorse our Terms & Conditions, Joining Instruction/Training Agreement and Non-Disclosure Agreement and submit along with a scanned Copy of original Valid Photo ID (such as International Passport, Driver’s License or National Identity Card) for online verification. Your registration will be annulled if your Photo ID is not verifiable.
