COURSE OVERVIEW

NEBOSH qualifications with high pass rate globally are provided by Safeguard RTL, a NEBOSH Accredited Learning Partner 1332 with SILVER STATUS. You can join our NEBOSH Process Safety Management Physical classroom training or preferably the Virtual Class from any location in the world. You can also write your invigilated exam in our office locations or at various exam locations globally.

This qualification aims to provide holders with the knowledge and understanding of process safety management to ensure that they can contribute to the effective management of process safety risks. The qualification is designed to provide a sound breadth of knowledge and understanding that enables qualification holders to contribute to the management of process safety risks. This qualification builds on the understanding already gained by studying the International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

• People from all around the world who work in process industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals.
• Ideal for managers, safety representatives and health and safety advisors working within the process industries, both inside and outside the UK.
• It is not designed for chemical and process safety engineers experienced in the specification, design and maintenance of process plant.
• It is recommended that learners should already have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety issues, and many will have gained another NEBOSH qualification.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management is designed to cover a range of issues affecting process industries.

Key topics covered by this qualification include:

• Establishment of process management systems
• Asset management and maintenance strategies
• Safe start-up and shutdown of process plant
• Performance standards for safety critical systems and equipment
• Hazards and controls for: o Chemical reactions o Bulk storage of dangerous substances o Fire and explosion
• Purpose and features of emergency plans

This unit is divided into the following four key elements:

• Process safety leadership
• Management of process risk
• Process safety hazard control
• Fire and explosion protection

EXAMINATION

Examination registration

Learners must be registered before they can take an examination. All examination registrations must be completed by Safeguard RTL as the accredited learning partner.

Examination entry confirmation

Once we have registered you to a NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety examination, NEBOSH will send you a Confirmation of Registration email that includes your learner number, and important information relating to your examination. Please ensure that you check your name is spelt correctly and report this to your us if any changes are required. If you have not received this email, please remember to check your spam folders.

Examination Format

Unit PSM1: :Online Proctored Multiple-Choice Question Exam. Exam dates will be decided and arranged by NEBOSH.

Examination Results

You will receive your results within 24 working days of sitting the examination. Once you have achieved a pass a qualification parchment will be issued. This is normally within 20 working days of the confirmation of the successful unit.

NOTIONAL LEARNING HOURS

A break-down of the notional learning hours is given below:

PSM1: 28 hours tuition and 20 hours private study Total: 48 hours A programme of study therefore needs to be based around a minimum of 28 taught hours and approximately 20 hours of private study for an overall total of 48 hours.

A full-time block release course would be expected to last for a minimum of four working days and a part-time day release course would be spread over at least four weeks.

For candidates studying by open or distance learning, the tuition hours should be added to the recommended private study hours to give the minimum number of hours that this mode of study will require.

ASSESSMENTS

The Certificate in Process Safety Management is a one-unit qualification.

Unit PSM1: Process safety management

• Unit PSM1 is a taught unit, assessed by a 90-minute multiple-choice question paper.
• The question paper consists of 40 multiple-choice questions; 10 of the questions are extended scenario questions which will be randomly distributed throughout the paper.
• Each question is worth one mark and has one correct and three incorrect responses available.
• The question paper covers the whole syllabus with at least one question per element and all questions are compulsory.

RE-SITTING UNIT(S)

RE-SITTING UNIT(S) You may re-sit a unit assessment if:

• you achieved a ‘Pass’ in a unit that is five or more years old, and you need it to achieve the qualification;
• you are ‘Referred’ (i.e., don’t pass); or
• you want to retake a Unit to get a higher grade.

There is no limit to the number of times you can re-sit unit(s) within the five-year period. Re-sit marks are not capped. If you want to try to improve your grade in a Unit, you need to tell NEBOSH in writing within 20 working days of the declaration date of your successful unit.

PAYMENT AND REGISTRATION

Cash payment is not allowed. Payment in any convenient instalment is allowed starting with a minimum of 50% of the total training fee before receipt of training materials, however candidate must complete payment in full 3 days before class start date.

You can join our NEBOSH WEL Virtual Classroom or the distance learning program from any location globally and write your Practical Risk Assessment from the comfort of your home and workplace without the need to travel out of your location.

Training Modes

Physical Classroom

• Safeguard physical classroom study allows you to get away from the distractions from workplaces and homes to enable concentrate on your training until completion.
• It provides learners a great opportunity to condense their study within the training the days compared to our Distance Learning Program which can be studied over a relatively longer period.
• The classroom setting allows learners to learn in our safe, quiet, clean multi-media training laboratory, away from the noise and pressures of their work or their homes.
• Again, learners could be large which allows the classroom environment to provide the important “human touch” that teaches learners how to interact physically with one another in a professional, productive and cooperative way which is often missing in distance learning program.
• The course fee cover training materials, tutorials, revision class, mock examination, main examination, in addition to tea break and lunch break.

Live Virtual Classroom

• If you have the time for classroom study but you are not available to join our classroom session due to distance or location, then our Live Virtual Class is your best alternative.
• Our live virtual class is easy to follow and can be completed within the same time as the physical classroom. Learners can join remotely and learn ‘live’ online with a tutor just as they would in a classroom.
• You get all the benefits of structured classroom learning but with the convenience of the digital world, studying where you like. Our learners can remotely join the virtual class from any location in the world through live video conferencing with the Zoom Technology using a PC, laptop, tablet or a smart phone.
• Learners are advised to download and install the Zoom application in their devices for this purpose and secure a reliable internet service in advance to enable access to the live virtual class.
• Throughout the course, learners can see and interact with the tutor and with other learners. Group interaction enhances learning; learners learn from one another as well as from the tutor.
• Our live virtual class provides practical, flexible and convenient ways of learning, designed to fit around you and your needs.
• Learners are able to drop questions on the chat box in group or private chat the Tutor and learners can also request to ask questions while the training is going on.
• Daily take-home assignment will be posted in chat box and on the group WhatsApp which will be reviewed by the tutor at the beginning of each day’s tutorial.
• There will be workbook and course workbook which will be completed by learners and submitted for tutor’s evaluation.
• A revision class and a mock examination will be arranged to prepare learners for the final examination.

• Organizations that are sponsoring learners to join our physical classroom, virtual classroom or distance learning program will have to pay the corporate course fees.
• We can also arrange an executive package for organizations that desire a top-class welfare package for their employees.
• We can visit your workplace and deliver the course at a time and place to suit you in the form of in-company training.
• This is an effective way of training several delegates at the same time, saving on time and travel costs. The biggest benefit of in-company training is the location.
• Organizing training off-site can be difficult for some employers, especially if you have a large team to get through a course. On-site training means less travel time and are much more convenient for your employees.
• Hosting a course, yourself also means last minute changes can be made to attendees. For example, if someone suddenly becomes free to complete some training, at least they will be in the right place already.
